The poem about the adventures of King Gilgamesh, also known as Istubar, and his friend Enkidu. One of the tablets relates an episode much like the Bible about the flood. The adventure to kill the giant Khumb, the descent into hell and the relationship between gods, demigods (like Gilgamesh himself) and give a clear deadly pre-Hellenistic origin. The emotional core is in mourning after the death of Enkidu. Critics consider it the first literary work, which focuses on mortality and immortality.
